Skin
Written by J. EllisOnto the subway
Walks a man
Face burned
By acid
Peering at passengers
From cocktail onions
Pushed into wet mud
I give him some money
Others follow suit
Touch their own faces
To make sure
They're still them
And he's still he
Skin is a tough bitch
Slit open and fried
Tries hard
To stay true
If it fails
It still tried
Still keeps each hell
On the appropriate side

FUBAR
Written by danny jarrettyou are fucked up
beyond all repair
and it's your own fault
but your faults
are involuntary
so you're not
really to blame
but it's because of
your faults that
you're here
unable to fashion
words out of thought
you're just awkward
that's all
and the hard part
is
dealing with the fact
that no one is really to
blame
anymore
the blame
used to be the best part
and now
it's
a non-part
and you miss it
the most

Apology To A Poem I Forgot To Write
Hey pen… hey paper…look - I know I told you that we’d spend more time together last night, andI’m really sorry… I guess I just got carried away doing all of the things that I do. I lost track of time, it seems, and by the time I realized that…in Poetry Read 8533 times

My Pee Buddy 'N' Me
It must be said that I don't keep a regular urinary schedule or anything like that. I drink seven bottles of water a day (for good luck), and so I go two or three times in an afternoon. It was just a coincidence that Indian Doctor and I met twice…in Fiction Read 5193 times

Metal Between My Legs
The concept of happiness floats like a feather over my head But it isn’t obeying the laws of gravity It looms over me, motionless, quiet, and dull Like the height requirement on a roller coaster to a short kid Both of us are incapable of grasping what hangs over us…in Poetry Read 4159 times

Polaroids
“You know Bonnie, right?”“No.” I lied. I didn't want to be bothered, not by Tim Snyder, not in the middle of a quiz in the math class I was already failing, and definitely not about Bonnie.“Sure you do, I see you with her all the time.”“Oh, yeah. She lives in…in Fiction Read 3560 times

Braver Far...
Walking along West 8th Street in the Village on a touristy Friday night, a woman sidled up to me. I’d only glanced at a poster stapled on a wooden barrier at a construction site, not absorbing its words. “They’re hiring welfare caseworkers,” she said. “The test is easy.” She patted…in Fiction Read 14 times

He's Hers. Not Mine. He's Hers.
He's hers. The words slither from my rippling tongue like a snake. Gently sliding a hypnotic swerving body and aiming prowling eyes toward a steaming spring. I stretch my lip-textured Skin deep into water hot enough to turn a cold-blooded reptile into a mouth watering meal. Not Mine! Not Mine!Oh…in Poetry Read 75 times

I, Wincer
You knew all about my uncanny ability to wince just before some small or large event occurs. You’ve seen my involuntary scowl, a contraction of my body out of pain, distress, mortification, affliction, heartache, torment---the whole gamut. You’ve not let on to others about this condition. I don’t think of…in Fiction Read 54 times

Genesis
I couldn't see anything. My glasses sat on the bedside table, unused. My eyes were pinched shut, it was a coping mechanism. Ronnie sat next to me, head in his hands, praying and he didn't even believe in God. His mother stopped coaching hours ago, I shushed her into submission.…in Nonfiction Read 73 times
